3rd grade just finished learning about artist, Edvard Munch. They looked at his famous painting, The Scream. We took their pictures and used them in our own "scream" drawings. They drew what they could possibly be screaming about. I loved all of the creative ideas they had.
1st grade just finished scarecrows. They were able to choose their own patterned paper for their pants and shirts. I love the outfits that they came up with!
5th grade just completed some abstract "splatter art". We did this artwork by putting watercolor paints on our paper and blowing the paint around with a straw. After we did the splatters, we filled the background in with a line design. They turned out really neat!
2nd grade read the story, When Pigasso Met Moostise. We looked at Picasso's artwork and then made Frankensteins in a similar style. We focused on geometric shapes, crooked eyes, and crooked mouths.
5th grade just finished their "daydreaming self portrait". I took their picture and they were supposed to draw different things that they could possibly be daydreaming about. I loved how creative they were and I was able to learn a little more about each student!
5th graders had some free time, so I let them make some critters and creatures out of clay. I loved the details and how they turned out. Here are a few of my favorites!
3rd grade just finished artwork inspired by Kandinsky. They painted abstract, watercolor paintings. They experimented with color by mixing colors together to make new colors!
5th graders just finished their "color wheel landscape". We talked about background, middle ground, and foreground. We also talked about how mixing colors, makes other colors. Here are some examples!
3rd grade just finished their first project of the year! They made an abstract line drawing, focusing on lines and patterns. They turned out great and were SO colorful! :)
5th grade just completed their first project of the year! We made abstract art out of shapes. We talked about organic and geometric shapes and also talked about positive and negative space. They turned out really great.
Welcome back to school! I can't wait to begin art at Sharon this year. I have so many projects that I think the students will love. Let's have a great year in 2013-2014!
5th grade just finished "Op-Art" (the art of optical illusion). We did our op-art on scratch art papers. The colors and designs turned our really neat. Here are some examples.
2nd grade recently read "A Bad Case of Stripes". We actually listened and watched the story being told on Storyline Online. It is a wonderful website that has actors and actresses reading picture books. We read a story about a girl named Camilla Cream, who caught a "bad case of stripes". First, the students drew themselves. After they finished drawing, they traced their drawing in Sharpie. Then, we talked about the colors on the color wheel, the order they go in, and painted our bad case of stripes! Here are some examples below.
3rd grade just completed their "Abstract Line Art" projects. They turned out really neat! We taped sections on our paper with painter's tape. Then, we talked about analogous colors and painted each section in with watercolor paints. I told them to focus on blending the colors together. Here are some examples below!
2nd grade just finished solar system art. We talked about all of the planets in our solar system. We chose a few to try to paint and used watercolor paint and oil pastel to make the planets look more realistic. After we finished painting the planets, we cut them out and glued them on a black piece of paper. We added rings around a planet and stars. We only did 4 planets because of time, but I would like to try it again with ALL of the planets on a large sheet of paper! :)
