Winter Cardinals

3rd grade recently finished a painting and drawing with Indiana's state bird, the Cardinal.  They used many materials to complete this project, such as watercolor paints, tempera paints, oil pastels, and crayons.  They turned out great!

Egyptian Art

3rd grade just finished learning about ancient Egyptian Art.  They learned about mummies, the ancient pyramids, and made artwork like the masks on a sarcophagus.

"Scream" inspired art

3rd graders studied artist, Edvard Munch, who painted the famous painting, "The Scream".  Students learned about Munch and made their own artwork inspired by The Scream.  They loved posing for their picture to include on this painting!

Blended Oil Pastels

3rd grade just made artwork with oil pastels and then blended them with baby oil.  They used warm and cool colors to complete their artwork.

Sunrise and Sunset Silhouettes

3rd grade just finished sunrise and sunset silhouettes.  They used watercolors to blend their sky and then used black paint to create their silhouettes.

"Scream" Inspired Artwork

3rd grade just finished learning about artist, Edvard Munch.  They looked at his famous painting, The Scream.  We took their pictures and used them in our own "scream" drawings.  They drew what they could possibly be screaming about.  I loved all of the creative ideas they had.

Kandinsky Inspired Art

3rd grade just finished artwork inspired by Kandinsky.  They painted abstract, watercolor paintings.  They experimented with color by mixing colors together to make new colors!

Abstract Line Art

  3rd grade just finished their first project of the year! They made an abstract line drawing, focusing on lines and patterns.  They turned out great and were SO colorful! :)

Abstract Line Art

3rd grade just completed their "Abstract Line Art" projects.  They turned out really neat! We taped sections on our paper with painter's tape.  Then, we talked about analogous colors and painted each section in with watercolor paints.  I told them to focus on blending the colors together.  Here are some examples below!

Magazine Color Wheels

Some of my classes were ahead of other classes, so I needed a fun, easy, project that we could complete in a day.  I made an empty color wheel and let the students cut out pictures of different colored items to fill it in. They look neat when they are done and the kids had a good time doing it!  I had some 1st and second graders do this, but it could be used for any grade level.

William Wegman inspired artwork

3rd Grade recently looked at the artist, William Wegman.  He took pictures of his dogs and put clothes on them and made them do human like things.  We took a picture of a cat (a grumpy cat!) and made them look like they were doing human things, just like Wegman did in his photographs.  I loved the way some of their pictures turned out.  Some are very funny! Here is the cat picture we used and some examples below.

Aborigines Paintings

 3rd Grade just finished studying about the Aborigines people of Australia.  They looked at their 'dot' paintings.  We made our own Aborigines artwork and chose animals from Australia to draw.  They turned out really neat!
